Importantly, these impulses don’t come from nowhere. There are very real economic divisions, and people rightfully feel less secure than ever. Job security has eroded for millions of Americans. Jobs that those in previous generations could expect to retire from simply aren’t available.
Nevertheless, we have arrived at a political environment where many people refuse to accept objective facts as a badge of tribalism that they wear on their sleeve. Some politicians indulge the delusional beliefs of their base, even when they often know it is false simply to stay in a position of power.
Western Ethic, the organization, puts this concept of personal responsibility into practice, by proactively working to solve the nation’s greatest problems.
What is the western ethic?
The western ethic is an ideology of personal responsibility, valuing self-reliance and the exercise of sound judgment. Core to this ideology is the understanding that actions have costs and consequences, and the conviction to honestly take account and responsibility for your own choices and beliefs.
The conviction to seek the truth, not shop for what you’d like to be true. Some of our country’s greatest current problems stem from individuals diluting their world view on the basis of wishful thinking, of what is convenient, or of what won’t conflict with accepted viewpoints.
